On the second order first zagreb index

Inspired by the chemical applications of higher-order connectivity index (or Randic index), we consider here the higher-order first Zagreb index of a molecular graph. In this paper, we study the linear regression analysis of the second order first Zagreb index with the entropy and acentric factor of an octane isomers. The linear model, based on the second order first Zag...

Critical dynamical heterogeneities close to continuous second-order glass transitions.

We analyze, using inhomogeneous mode-coupling theory, the critical scaling behavior of the dynamical susceptibility at a distance ε from continuous second-order glass transitions. We find that the dynamical correlation length ξ behaves generically as ε(-1/3) and that the upper critical dimension is equal to six. More surprisingly, we find that ξ grows with time as ln²t exactly at criticality. A...

First Order Vortex Dynamics

A non-dissipative model for vortex motion in thin superconductors is considered. The Lagrangian is a Galilean invariant version of the Ginzburg–Landau model for time-dependent fields, with kinetic terms linear in the first time derivatives of the fields. It is shown how, for certain values of the coupling constants, the field dynamics can be reduced to first order differential equations for the...

Second Order Phase Transitions

summing the Boltzmann factor over all spin configurations {si}. The enumeration of all configurations cannot be done for d ≥ 3, and although possible in d = 2 is extremely hard there as well (a problem solved by Onsager). We will use an approximate solution technique known as mean field theory. Last term we solved the problem of noninteracting spins in a magnetic field described by the Hamilton...

Simultaneous first- and second-order percolation transitions in interdependent networks.

In a system of interdependent networks, an initial failure of nodes invokes a cascade of iterative failures that may lead to a total collapse of the whole system in the form of an abrupt first-order transition. When the fraction of initial failed nodes 1-p reaches criticality p = p(c), the abrupt collapse occurs by spontaneous cascading failures. At this stage, the giant component decreases slo...
